In 2007 when I was 35 Mr Hutchinson replaced my right hip and then in 2018 I had both knees replaced aged 47.
The care I was given before during and after surgery has been nothing but excellent.
Before having my knees replaced I was unable to do simple things that people take for granted. Mr Hutchinson has given me my life back (sounds dramatic but this is completely true) and I will be forever grateful
I completely trust him and his team and thank them for the work they do.

If you do need a hip replacement, Mr James Hutchinson should be your first choice of orthopaedic surgeon. He has an excellent record of achievement. In fact he is in the top 5% of UK surgeons in terms of revision rate and we are extremely lucky in Derby and surrounding district to have access to his care both within the NHS and privately.
Just over four years ago, I was in severe pain, walked with a limp and was badly in need of a hip replacement. I was very fortunate to come across Mr Hutchinson, who said he could carry out the operation for me. He clearly explained everything to me, told me what I needed to do immediately after the operation, and how long my recovery would take.
I can only say it was like a miracle and the whole process went exactly as Mr Hutchinson had clearly explained and I was in and out of hospital in less than 24 hours. He had told me that I would have a scar left on my leg after the operation, but what he failed to say was that this would be the neatest, smallest, hardly noticeable scar that you could ever imagine.
All I can say is "Thankyou Mr Hutchinson for an excellent job well done."

The care and attention I received before, during and after my hip replacement surgery was second to none. It is obvious Mr Hutchinson takes great pride in his work to achieve the best outcomes for his patients.

Mr Hutchinson gave me a hip replacement about 6 years ago. It was a really positive experience. The new hip functions like a real one. I went back for a check up today and found him attentive and helpful. The hip is still good for another 20 years and we are monitoring the other one now which is beginning to twinge. I don't think he could improve on the service he has provided.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago and could not praise Mr Hutchinson and the staff at Royal Derby hospital enough. The care from begin the end was excellent. So good to be pain free, and get your life back. I’m now going to the gym 3 times a week and back doing 10-12 mile hikes across the hills.

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Derby Hospital and Derby Nuffield Hospital. I have been in my current post since 2002.
I specialise in primary hip and knee replacement, revision hip replacement and the management of periprosthetic fractures.
My medical school training was at The Queens College , University of Oxford and Addenbrookes Hospital, University of Cambridge. I carried out additional training in complex hip and knee surgery during a 12 month Fellowship in Perth, Western Australia.
I submit all my cases to the National Joint Registry and the outcomes of my last 3000 joint replacement cases put me in the top 5% of UK surgeons in terms of revision rate.
Hip and knee replacement is a real passion of mine- I firmly believe you only live once and that well performed hip and knee replacement prolongs good function and improves quality of life.
